What Is a Hank Drum or Steel Tongue Drum?
Hank Drum is a modern percussion instrument, from the same family as Tibetan bowls, bells, or Shaman’s tambourine.
It is an idiophone instrument, a round slit drum type that is often maded from a propane tank.
Although its origins may have come from Jim Doble’s Whale Drum or Felle Vega‘s Tambiro it was not until Dennis Havlena built his version of Tambiro out of a propane tank that the first steel tongue drum came. His passion for creating sound and music led to his creation of today’s modern hang drum instrument made of a propane tank, hence the name hank drum (hang plus tank).
Usually, Steel Tongue Drums has seven to ten radial tongues on its exterior, and UFO Drum has eight. Each tongues tones varies according to their lengths and weights and can be tuned both in pentatonic and diatonic mode. The instrument is played by fingers or two wooden stick, and like all other idiophone instruments, the sound is created by the device vibrating.
UFO Drum perfectly hand-tuned their hank drum by hank drum masters of 20 years, producing immersive cosmic music and gives everyone their taste of induced euphoria.
Apart from what you can do with it, hank drums are a good companion for travelers it allows them to reduce boredom or kill time while in transit, channeling energy towards spiritual activities. It can be a great help also in music therapy or alters one’s state of consciousness for the better and much more.
